My Story

Hi! I’m Kharyn and I am The GeneaHistorian.

Starting when I was very young, I always loved being with my grandparents hearing about stories and family history. I remember being six and writing out a pedigree chart. History was my favorite subject all through grade and high school. Something about history, non-fiction and even historical fiction books were always what drew me in and made me come alive!

I became more serious with genealogy and family history after my grandfather passed away when I was 18 years old in 2010. It was then that I realized how finite life is and how much I missed out on asking my grandfather before he passed. Oh, how I regret not taking family history more serious in my high school years and less embarrassed about the joy it gave me while my grandfather was still here.

Since 2010, I have gone to college for a degree in Criminal Justice which has helped immensely with my critical thinking for genealogy research purposes. I got married to Ryan and we have had one child so far. Her name is Livia and she’s our pride and joy.

I am currently a stay a home mom and ready to pursue becoming a professional genealogist. Having been completely self-taught, I am pursuing the NGS American Genealogical Studies certificate along with creating this blog and YouTube channel The GeneaHistorian. I hope to have enough under my belt soon to provide services in genealogy work shortly. But for now follow my journey on my blog, Instagram and YouTube at The GeneaHistorian
